George Forss comments on Donna Wynbrandt Portraits
Donna Wynbrandt is a Ginofor Gallery discovery, a self taught artist.
Currently, Wynbrandt focuses on charcoal and water color portraits, using 300lb rag paper, 30" x 22".
Donna’s goal is to do 100 of these this year. She did 46 last year.
As a seasoned gallery owner, I cannot speak too highly of the impact of her work. Through the years my gallery has represented her, I have marveled at the diverse focuses she generates in her work. She wins steady interest from her many collectors. I feel that Donna Wynbrandt is a great find in the art world (or that she should be).
Donna did not sell 46 portraits; she sold a few of these. To get 100 portraits in 2010, Donna will do a portrait of anyone who will sit for her. After this the subject will decide if they want to buy the unique, sometimes outlandish, portrait of themselves. Wynbrandt decided to do a series of portraits with “Teddy”. This is the big stuffed teddy bear you see in a couple of her portraits illustrated on this site.
Donna’s will paint you the way she truly sees you. I call these ‘Stinging Truth’ portraits. Donna always captures the true essence of a person in a fun way.
Framing is available for these. For a new 36" x 30" frame, choose from a rainbow selection of colors to bring out the subtle tones of her paintings. Ginofor Gallery also does unique low cost framing for any image. For smaller works by Donna Wynbrandt, we have a lot of what I call ‘Found Frames’. These are older frames that I collect. They are given to me or I find them in yard sales.
A fan of her work approached her in the grocery store parking lot to say, "I didn't realize how beautiful your paintings were until I saw them framed and up on the wall."
It is amazing how a simple mat and frame brings out the beauty of a Wynbrandt work.
